The Foundation

In 2010, the Rescue Ink Foundation was formed and assumed all the assets of the former non-profit organization affiliated with Rescue Ink. The mission of the foundation is to help enhance the quality of life for animals that are in need of care. It plans to further its purpose by providing specialized programs that aim to raise awareness concerning animal brutality and mistreatment.

The formation of this new foundation allows the members of Rescue Ink to focus on taking action against animal abusers and neglect cases. With generous donations, we can save the lives of hundreds of abused animals, educate the youth of America on the proper care of animals, and provide essential animal care services, including veterinary and rescue care.

Who We Are

Rescue Ink is an animal-rescue group dedicated to battling animal abuse and neglect, and educating and informing children and families about the mistreatment of animals. But don't be fooled: Rescue Ink isn't your typical rescue organization. These tough-talking tattooed bikers aren't afraid to use their verbal muscle-power to take the fight against animal abuse to the next level, within the boundaries of the law. The group uses their intimidating presence to shame and report animal abusers and rehabilitate distressed animals.

Our Work

Rebel, originally named "Ribbons" because of his tattered, shredded ears, was found as a stray in Kentucky. The ligature marks on his legs and nose, as well as his severely infected, pus-filled ears, suggested he had been used as a "bait-dog" to train fighting dogs in a suspected dog-fighting ring. Rescue Ink swooped in and, with the aid of Animal Rescue Flights, flew Rebel home and offered him a new lease of life as the official Rescue Ink mascot.

With his scarred face and muscle-bound body, Rebel is a shining example of an animal's ability to forgive and live in the moment. He is a daily reminder of Rescue Ink's mission.

While Rescue Ink deals with serious cases like Rebel's on a daily basis, the group also assists with some, er, eclectic situations. When a group of renegade cluckers took up home in a Queens neighborhood, Rescue Ink was called in to help New York City animal control round them up. After much chasing, stalking and net-waving, the team finally caught the rogue rooster (nicknamed Junior) and some hens. Junior is now living the high life at a working farm in upstate New York, alongside Sophia, Isabella and Henrietta, his harem of hens. Most rescuers don't list chicken-chasing under their credentials. Then again, most rescue groups are nothing like Rescue Ink.

Shelter

Rescue Ink's sanctuary is located in upstate New York. The 25-acre rehabilitation center has two pack leaders who make every opportunity to rehabilitate the rescues. By fully providing for these dogs everyday, they earn their trust, their respect and ultimately, their allegiance. In return, Rescue Ink offers them balance to replace fear and dominance. Every decision made is for the benefit of the dogs and every dog that we work with resides under this blanket of safety and care. By using our presence as a figure of leadership and our sanctuary as the territory that we control, we are their main source of guidance. As a result we form the dog's tendencies, personality, and their temperament. With an unwavering image of leadership - every dog can have the opportunity to become a balanced and calm submissive member. Rescue Ink is in the process of expanding the sanctuary, and will have updated news on this project over the next several months.

Our Programs

The Rescue Ink Programs establish community ambassadors to help expose and promote the plight of animal cruelty. Sharing the same vision and responsibility will in turn make the world a more humane place.

Volunteer Program

Volunteers are a vital part of the Rescue Ink Foundation. Their support towards the organization is tremendous and without their help, the foundation would not be able to accomplish its mission. Volunteers are utilized in a multifaceted fashion, providing event assistance, administrative tasks, animal care, behavior modification and foster care, just to name a few. The opportunities are endless. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact info@rescueink.com.

Humane Education - Jr. Ink Members

The Humane Education program encourages children to be more compassionate and respectful towards our non-human friends.  By fostering a sense of empathy and responsibility, children will gain a sense of discipline and become kinder and more responsible individuals reflecting a positive change in the younger generation. The program reinforces that it is cool to help animals and on completion, its members will be lucky enough to become a member of the Junior Ink Rescue Team!

Domestic Abuse

A correlation between animal abuse and domestic violence abuse has been recognized. Abused animals serve as a warning that future abuse in the home may occur. In fact, many women stay in abusive situations for fear their pets will be abused if they leave their beloved pet behind. Rescue Ink is partnering with organizations to provide foster homes for victims of domestic abuse. The animals will be well cared for until the individual is able to be reunited with their animal companion.

Adoption Program

A second chance is what Rescue Ink is all about. Give a dog or cat a second chance at life by adopting one of these furry four-legged creatures. Animals will give you unconditional love and deserve to live a life of comfort and safety. If you are interested in adopting one of our rescued pets, contact info@rescueink.com.

Putting Passion into Action

Saving an animal from horrific, unlivable conditions, rescuing an emaciated dog off the street that has nowhere else to turn, educating the youth of America on the proper care of animals -- these are just some of the ways that your charitable donations are put to work through the Rescue Ink Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of our friends and family, Rescue Ink is empowered to perform extraordinary acts to save these animals.

Our supporters have become part of a network of concerned citizens who donate their time and money to the work of Rescue Ink. We are privileged to put their passion into action.

Pets for Adoption

Here are some of the animals RESCUE INK has available for adoption. All animals have been spayed and neutered and are up to date on shots, unless otherwise indicated.

Darla

This 7-month-old brindle girl is a bit timid – she is working through her fear and trust issues. But she’s very playful and ambitious when she’s comfortable. Darla has no problems with other dogs or people. She just needs some confidence to come into her own.

Kermit

Like many of the pitbulls we have for adoption, Kermit – yes, she’s a girl – was rescued from a fighting ring in Dublin, Ga. At 1 ½ years old and 35 pounds, this chocolate-brown Pitbull is social with all other dogs, and submissive and sweet with people. Just a playful, wiggly, happy girl.

Spike

Spike’s story was detailed in our book and on our recent TV show: Rescued from a family that kept him confined in a tiny pen, he had little socialization and a very narrow view of the world. Now, thanks to some intense retraining and rehab, he is ready for a forever home.

Tallulah

This chocolate-and-white pittie girl is only a baby at 4 months old. Spunky, alert and inquisitive, she is very loyal and sweet with people. Because she’s still a puppy, Tallulah needs an owner who will continue the obedience training we have begun with her.

Rescue Ink Foundation Staff

Sarah Brown, Executive Director

Sarah joined The Rescue Ink Foundation in 2010 as our Executive Director. As director of the Foundation, Sarah is responsible for tackling the daily challenges we face to save hundreds of abused animals, as well as creating supportive alliances with those who believe in our mission and developing an educational curriculum with the members of Rescue Ink.

After growing up in a house full of rescue animals, Sarah realized her passion lay in rescuing animals and animal welfare.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations and a minor in English from The Ohio State University, before moving to New York City to begin a career in Public Relations.  After realizing a lack of fulfillment in the corporate world, Sarah returned to her main love of rescuing animals and applied her business skills to the structured efforts of animals rescue organizations, whilst studying for a Master of Public Administration degree from Walden University. Prior to joining the Foundation, Sarah spent five years at Animal Care & Control of NYC, a city shelter system that rescues over 43,000 animals each year in the greater New York City area. During her time on the Senior Management team at AC&C, Sarah helped facilitate operations in all three city shelters, was responsible for overseeing quality control, volunteer & foster program, adoption programs, special events, development and media.

Sarah’s life devotion to animal rescue coincides perfectly with The Rescue Ink Foundation’s mission; educating the public on humane treatment of animals and to conquer the plight we face to end animal cruelty.  She is a member of Public Relations Society of America, American Society for Public Administration, Step up Women’s Network, Sierra Club, and Amnesty International.

Sarah actively supports various rescue efforts and is well respected within the animal community for her tireless efforts to raise awareness on animal rescue, spaying and neutering and humane animal care. Sarah is an active vegetarian and currently resides in Forest Hills, Queens, with her husband, two rescued cats Oliver and Emma, two rescued dogs Max and Lucy, and their rescued guinea pig Madeline.

Maria Milito, Board Member

Maria Milito, a native New Yorker, has been heard on the New York airwaves since the 80’s.  She joined Q104.3, New York’s Only Classic Rock Station, in 1996 as midday host.  Her popular feature, “Maria’s Lunch Licks,” has Tri-State area offices jamming her studio phone, fax, and email.  In the recently released Arbitron Ratings, Milito’s shift ranked #1 in three key demos (Men 18-49, Men 25-49 and 25-54) and #2 in Adults 25-54.

Her New York City “break” was on the original WKTU.   When that station flipped formats in 1985 from Top 40 to album oriented rock (creating K-ROCK), she remained a mainstay there for over a decade.  In addition to her own shift, Milito’s duties also included hosting “The Best of Stern.”
